Shower Walls and Wet Areas
ProTile™ Building Panels are the preferred substrate for shower walls and wet areas. ProTile™ Building Panels are finished on both sides so you can install them in any direction and tile either side. ProTile™ ½”, 5/8”, and 1” Building Panels measure 64” so they will completely span four 16” o.c. studs with no cutting and no waste. This will help save time and lower material costs. The waterproof panels are easily attached to your framing using ProTile™ Fasteners and ProTile™ Joint Sealant. As soon as the panels are installed and the joints and fasteners are sealed, you are ready to tile. Installing ProTile™ Building Panels takes a fraction of the time required to install and waterproof traditional installation materials, so you can begin to enjoy your new shower in just a few days.
Secure steam Room and Steam Shower Installations
When you need to contain water vapor, there is no better backer board than ProTile™ VP1.
ProTile™ VP1 is the preferred substrate for tiles in wet and very humid areas, such as steam rooms and steam showers. ProTile™ VP1 has been tested against the stringent Water Vapor Transmission test specified in ASTM E96-05 (Procedure E) and exceeds the performance recommendations in the current TCNA’s Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation. TCNA steam shower installation methods SR613 and SR614 now require the use of a bonded waterproof membrane, between tile and substrate, with a water vapor permeance, or “perm rating,” of 0.5 perms or less. ProTile™ VP1 features a rating of just 0.008 perms, far exceeding the TCNA requirements. Liquid applied vapor retarders are labor-intensive to apply, and require 100%, pinhole-free coverage to be effective, making them no match for ProTile™ VP1.
ProTile™ VP1 Board is constructed to exacting standards, to deliver industry-leading vapor management properties, and provide an extra level of protection for your steam shower installation.
ProTile™ VP 1 Backer Board is made with an XPS extruded polystyrene, closed cell foam core that is CFC + HCFC free, strong, lightweight, and 100% impermeable to water and thermal insulating. One side of the VP1 Board is coated with a polymer modified, cementitious mortar, reinforced with heavy duty, alkali resistant, fiberglass mesh.. The other side features an aluminum vapor retarder that is applied using a proprietary epoxy adhesive. The aluminum barrier is then coated with an epoxy resin coating, reinforced with a layer of heavy duty, alkali resistant, fiberglass mesh, to create a superior bonding surface and the lowest perm-rated backer board in the industry. ProTile™ VP1 Backer Board is easy to cut and simple to install. Once installed, and the joints and fasteners are sealed, the surface is ready for tiling.
